Review: Grimsburg “Haunted Housewife”

Overview

Annoyed by Flute ruining her dates, Harmony pushes him to move out, resulting in him moving into a house haunted by a doting housewife who does all his chores, transforming him into a real adult.

Our Take

For those that were watching SNL 50 you’ll be happy to hear that a bunch of SNL alum show up in tonight’s all-new episodes of Grimsburg. Rachel Dratch voices Stan, Cheri Oteri guest stars as the poltergeist that nearly kills everyone, and Martin Short was supposed to be here as a brand-new character named “Otis” but son-of-a-bitch, he was nowhere to be seen this episode (show star/creator Jon Hamm has been on SNL enough times so maybe he counts?) Normally I would say that advertising a new recurring star for a show for the last several months only to not have him in the show would be a poor way to kick off a season premiere, but I’m more mad at NASCAR this evening so we’ll just leave it at that.

Longtime Family Guy producer and one of my favorite voice actors of all-time John Viener joins the writing staff and gives us one of the darkest episodes the show has ever done. In terms of violence, I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen THIS much blood on an AniDom series, maybe a Treehouse episode from The Simpsons but that’s all I can recall and I don’t even think it’s been any of the recent ones. Clearly John had some issues he wanted to work out and boy did we with Stan’s Home Alone parody that slowly turns into Deliverance over time.

Overall, I got to say, Grimsburg is picking up this season where the show’s first season left off. Bringing on a guy like Jon Hamm in the writer’s room is I think an ace move and with Martin Short on deck somewhere I’m feeling pretty good about what’s ahead for the rest of the season.

Error happened.
