OUR TAKE
Hey, would you look at that, we’re out of the dingy, dark, and sleazy cave and out in the bright day light! So this new arc is already starting out on a way better foot than the last one! Well, of course we couldn’t go the whole episode without a little sleaze as Alicia puts on some leather “armor” that is basically just a bikini over her regular clothes, but if that’s all we’re dealing with this week then I’ll take it! More importantly, we meet Gart, the servant of another Demon King, Zavthier, who apparently had similar ideas as Clevatess when it came to wiping out humans, although in her case it’s more because they apparently steal and kill a lot of dark beasts, which would definitely make ME wanna wipe some out. Clen hides his true ranking from Gart, showing that the Demon Kings aren’t necessarily on the best of terms, and so operating without their knowledge seems to be in Clen’s best interest. Given that we’re nearly halfway through the season, I have my doubts we’ll be seeing much of Zavthier, much less the other Demon Kings we’re aware of, but it’s a good bit of worldbuilding to know that Clen does in fact have some peers that it would be inconvenient to get on the wrong side of.
We also get a bit of Alicia backstory, as a treat! We’ve seen her with her dad as a kid, and saw said dad fighting for his life against a stronger armored opponent in the Opening. Now, we get a name to put to that face, Dorel, a human general who has his own ambitions. He feels like a more likely season finale antagonist, especially since Alicia is still clinging to her own personhood and humanity while being Clen’s meat puppet. She can’t even hang onto the cool sword she found last episode without it going in Clen’s shadow storage! But for now, we have other problems at hand, specifically a wizard sent by Dorel to get Luna, which it looks like Clen, Alicia, and Nelluru (who I didn’t really have much reason to bring up this week) will be facing next week! Maybe facing Dorel will happen a little earlier than I first thought, but regardless, we’re at least going to be at the halfway point. Though honestly, this show will have a lot higher chance of growing on me if it just stays away from the gratuitousness I saw the past few weeks.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
