English Dub Season Review: Demon Lord 2099 Season One
Overview:
Five hundred years ago the Demon Lord Veltol ruled over a nation of immortals. Now he has woken up and the year is 2099. His world and ours have collided to become one creating technology that wonders. While he may be caught in the past, the world will still be his!
Our Take:
This was a show I wasn’t expecting to like but fell in love with. One of the main reasons for that was Ian Sinclair’s performance as Veltol. Ian is more known for playing silly characters and at the beginning, Veltol was far from that. To be fair he never is “purposefully” goofy but when you’re a Demon Lord who’s been asleep for five hundred years you’re bound to say some silly things. Not only that but when you decide to gain back followers by becoming an online streamer things are going to get goofy.
Demon Lord 2099 is a tale of two halves. The first half is fantastic with the right mix of fun, seriousness, and a dabble of romance. The second half dips into a harem and gets a little confusing. Not only that but it wasn’t a complete story and once again we are tasked with seeking out more of this series from the source material. I understand that I’m probably sounding like a broken record at this point but anime being an ad for source material gets frustrating when it happens time after time after time.
Having said that I still had a lot of fun watching this and looked forward to each episode week after week. It hit the right amount of genre mixing for me, with action and comedy in the right places. If you’re looking for a unique spin on the “Demon Lord” trope we see in anime then look no further because at the very least you’ll have some fun. Let’s hope we get a second-season announcement sometime soon because I’d like to see more of these characters.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
