English Dub Review: Loner Life in Another World “Loner With the Worst Skills”

Overview:

Haruka is suddenly summoned to another world with his classmates, where special skills are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. He receives the skill “loner.”

Our Take:

I hope that this show gets a lot better because the first time I watched this episode I fell asleep. I went back and watched it a second time to give it a fair shot and I did stay awake but I can’t say I enjoyed it a lot. My main issue with the episode is that they seem to be taking a page from Crunchyroll and not in a good way. The first five minutes of the episode seem to have a lot of world-building information on-screen but it wasn’t translated for some reason.

To enjoy a show I think you need to understand it and there was a lot of this I didn’t understand because of the translation issue. The romance fan in me isn’t super excited at the prospect of Haruka being a “loner” either. He saw the class rep and decided to look back on the fact that they were childhood friends and he didn’t think letting her know he was okay would be a good idea. Take the romance angle out and it’s still a shitty thing to do to me. We’re off to a rough start with this one.
