English Dub Review: Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective “Fierce Blazing Finale”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The Enzo Curse is finally solved.

OUR TAKE

And this brings us to the end of the three parter involving bodies suddenly igniting into flame, where the culprit is unmasked (proverbially, as there are no masks here) and the case is solved. Regarding that, I will be completely honest with you, dear hypothetical viewers…I have not been paying very much attention to the past few episodes. My personal schedule has simply gotten very packed, especially on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and of the over half a dozen shows I cover currently within those two days, this specific one has basically been at the bottom of my priorities. But I suppose I should pull from what I can recollect from watching this episode so this review isn’t a total farce, right? I’m gonna assume you nodded or said “yeah, I guess” or some other sign of approval. So yeah, the case is wrapped up and the culprit is revealed to be none other than…Murota’s daughter Haruka, who apparently wanted her father dead due to him being an abusive bastard, and the curse probably seemed like a good enough cover to put white phosphorus (which is incredibly flammable) in his food, which caused him to combust. No idea if that actually works that way, but hey, it makes for good enough TV.

Also worth noting is the ending of the episode. With her crime exposed, Haruka tries killing herself with fire to possibly redeem herself, but Ameku (I keep typing Akemu for some reason) is having none of it and actually saves her with Takanashi’s motorcycle, showing that as much as she cares about solving crimes, she is also a doctor and will neither do harm nor allow unnecessary harm to come to others if she can help it. So, yay for good morals in our eccentric detective protagonist. And with this show now half over, let’s assess how it’s being going so far. And the answer to that is…perfectly serviceable. We’ve had three stories, one two parts, one one part, and one three part, and they’ve all been about what you would expect from a twenty minute medical mystery procedural, for all the good and bad that entails. And, for the third sentence I have started with “and”, I expect the remaining six episodes will also be that way, but we’ll have to watch them to find out! Now to just pad out these last few sentences to reach the minimum word count and…done!
