English Dub Season Review: Tower of God Season Two

Overview:

On the 20th floor of the Tower, the “Regulars” who have been permitted to enter have to undertake arduous and costly tests to rank up. Most abandon hope and choose to stay where they are—but not Ja Wangnan.

Unfortunately, he encounters a powerful FUG slayer candidate, Viole, who bears a resemblance to Bam. But how is he alive? And why would he be with a bunch of gangsters?

Our Take(Spoilers):

Tower of God was the first mainstream manhwa to get an anime adaption. At least it was one of the most popular to get one and aired on Crunchyroll. It was a big deal when it first aired back in 2020 and I’ll be honest I didn’t think we’d ever get a second season. But here we are four years later and now we have a second season with no idea on a third. Maybe we’ll have one in 2028.

I watched the first season of Tower of God during the pandemic, and since simuldubs were on hold for a while, I decided to watch it subbed. This was my first experience with the characters being voiced in English. The one I was most intrigued to hear was Johnny Yong Bosch as Bam… I mean Viole… It’s the worst-kept secret that Viole is Bam. I think JYB does great as this more adult and edgy version of Bam. I didn’t watch the first season so I’m not sure how he did as the more childish Bam.

The animation wasn’t spectacular, and even the fight scenes were meh. They weren’t atrocious, but there were a few times I was surprised. For such a “shonen”-type series, I was surprised that more focus wasn’t put into the fight scenes.

People love this series for its characters, and I would say it shines in that area. It took me a little while to warm up to Bam’s new team, but once I did, I found more characters I loved. But no need to worry because if the OG team is your favorite then have no worries because everyone is reunited and happy by the end of this season. I do hope we get a third season so we can see a few more happy moments.

When it comes to reviewing a second season it makes it hard to recommend to a certain audience. If you’ve never seen Tower of God before then you will be lost and not enjoy it. But if you enjoyed the first season then I think you will find more to love here. Not only that but you get a higher episode count and you can never have too much of a good thing.
