English Dub Review: Zenshu “Destiny”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Last Town has its Harvest Festival, and the Nine Soldiers get some time off. That’s where Luke meets Destiny. In “A Tale of Perishing”, the two fall in love, but Natsuko coming into this world seems to be throwing off that destiny…
Our Take:
It’s clear that Natsuko has the power to change how the story ends, especially regarding an anime that’s far from peaceful. However, that particular ability could also affect a character’s outcome or destiny, as this episode’s title suggests. This has been proven in the previous two episodes, with Natsuko saving the town twice from the Voids due to her knowledge and animation prowess. Unsurprisingly, like clockwork, this process is repeated once more in this week’s episode, with another character, Destiny Heartwarming, having her destiny rewritten by Natsuko.
According to the movie, Destiny is the mayor’s chirpy daughter who happens to be Luke’s source of happiness and resembles every damsel in distress in existence. However, thanks to Natsuko and her inspiring wrestler-like creation, Destiny is now able to pursue her dream of starting an orphanage without the chairman interfering while wearing a wrestling outfit. But, of course, since this is “A Tale of Perishing” we’re talking about, Destiny is also another character who would soon meet their tragic fate.
Regarding the show’s supporting characters, Destiny is another figure I’d find tolerable, mainly due to how the show pokes fun at her “damsel” personality. She also tends to put others in specific predicaments because of her ignorance, including unintentionally getting Luke drunk with vodka. However, that moment alone wound up being more humorous than annoying. So, like my experience with Unio, we shall see if Destiny can maintain that type of likability now that she’s immediate besties with Natsuko. While its narrative showed some small signs of repetition through Natsuko defending the town from a Void, “Destiny” easily compensates for it with its detailed animation and comedy.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
