English Dub Review: Medalist “A Genius on the Ice”

Overview:

When former figure skater Tsukasa Akeuraji meets a self-taught skater, Inori Yuitsuka, he tries to persuade her to join a formal ice skating club. Unfortunately, Inori’s mother wants her clumsy daughter to give up skating altogether.

Our Take:

At first, I was worried that this show would be a CGI monstrosity when it came to the figure skating scenes. The first one that Inori was watching on TV looked bad, and I prepared for the worst. Now it’s still possible that they could look bad in the future but the later scenes in this episode were good. It was hard to get an idea of what the characters were going to be like but I think that Inori and Tsukasa will be fun to watch.

This seems like it’s going to be a classic “cute anime girls doing cute things” which can be a lot of heartwarming fun. Seeing Inori’s mom shoot down her dreams was pretty sad but I can understand her not wanting to see her daughter get hurt. When I think of figure skating I don’t think of a high injury rate but it’s possible for sure. The animation is fantastic and I like the premise, this could be a sleeper anime of the season.
