English Dub Review: I Left My A-Rank Party to Help My Former Students Reach the Dungeon Depths! “Clover Is Born”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Yuke, a red mage, quits his A-rank party, Thunder Pike, because he feels they don’t appreciate the support he provides. While seeking a new party, he encounters one of his former students, Marina, who invites him to join her new D-rank party.
Our Take:
It’s certainly no fun being treated like crap by your own teammates. Even with the hard work you put in giving everyone the support they need, you still don’t get the same amount of respect you deserve from them. It’s understandably frustrating, resulting in Yuke Feldio, a Red Mage and Alchemist, deciding to leave the A-rank party, Thunder Pike, due to him receiving unfair treatment from the group. Fortunately for Yuke, he immediately found himself a new party to join, led by none other than one of the former students he taught, a swordmage named Marina. Along with dark elf ranger Silk and priest Rain, the four of them form a D-rank team called “Clover” and are tasked with collecting magic iron ore from the Paintal Abandoned Mine Dungeon.
Unsurprisingly, this is yet another adventure-fantasy anime centered around dungeon raiding, complete with one of the world’s longest titles that defines the show’s entire plot. In addition to Yuke’s harem-like team and miraculous Red Mage and Alchemist skills, this series seems to have delivered exactly what you’d expect from this genre. However, I will give “Clover Is Born” credit for providing a modern twist to the formula, in which adventuring parties can livestream themselves going on dangerous quests with their “camerats”. It’s basically Twitch for adventurers instead of gamers and VTubers. I also didn’t expect Marina to sound more chipper in the English Dub based on her character design, but Lindsay Seidel managed to make the swordmage’s personality work for me. Despite the pacing feeling a bit rushed, the characters’ endearing chemistry and presentation provided a tolerable start for Yuke’s new party.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
