English Dub Review: Dungeon People “King and Dungeon Master”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Belle and Clay head to the castle to take on a challenge, and for some reason, Clay is forced into a maid uniform…

Our Take:

This week’s episode has Belle and Clay traveling outside the comforts of the dungeon once more, but it’s not for a friendly visit.  The show’s fourth episode briefly showcased that a guild in Frairelvant had mysteriously disappeared without a clear reason.  It’s now revealed that the dungeon’s old master was behind the disappearance as a sign of retaliation against the kingdom’s ruler due to its desire to gain control of the dungeon.  This led to a specific duel being created whenever Frairelvant had a new ruler, with the winner gaining full ownership of the dungeon and its treasures.  With the kingdom now being ruled by Prince Lugrant Haim Hasreid, Belle is then challenged to a duel against Lugrant’s subjects that could determine her position as the dungeon’s administrator.  However, considering how powerful her skills are and how capable Clay is in defending herself from Lugrant’s tricks, it’s certainly far from a challenging fight for the duo.

Dungeon People is usually known for its low-stakes, slice-of-life tone, especially when it comes to the action.  When the battles come around in the show, they appear more subtle than life-threatening, yet they still pack enough entertainment to keep me engaged.  “King and Dungeon Master” tends to up the stakes just a tiny bit, with Belle further relying on her skills to protect her dungeon from the kingdom’s prince, and the result is just as amusing as the previous episodes regarding its balance of action and comedy.  However, the real issue lies at the end of the episode, when Clay uses Rangado’s name as an alias to keep Lugrant from digging up dirt on her.  This backfired when Lugrant ordered the guild to search for Rangado.  Regardless of whether this would carry over to the next episode, it comically shows that Clay can still be flawed despite her thievery skills.
