English Dub Season Review: Oshi No Ko Season Two

Overview:

With the help of producer Masaya Kaburagi, Aquamarine “Aqua” Hoshino and Kana Arima have landed the roles of Touki and Tsurugi in Lala Lai Theatrical Company’s stage adaptation of the popular manga series Tokyo Blade.

Our Take:

There’s a reason this has become one of the most popular anime in recent memory. Between the catchy songs and awesome animation there’s a lot to like here. It doesn’t hurt that the story is pretty good as well.

If you were to describe this series to someone it wouldn’t sound nearly as good as it is. An idol otaku is murdered and reincarnates as one of the twin children of the idol he loves most. It’s a hell of a hook, that’s what got me to read it in the first place. But once you get a few episodes in you almost forget about that. I had forgotten until the anime aired and I went through the beginning again, the supernatural elements are a little more subdued than you might think other than the creepy girl who might be a god or something.

When I was reading I remember the Tokyo Blade arc being boring, but watching it was anything but boring. The animation was amazing and I love how this show delves into the minds of actors and creators. This show hits on almost every form of media a creative could make, from manga to tv and going all the way to Youtube personalities.

In my opinion the first season was better but to be fair it was always going to be hard to top. Oshi No Ko has already been confirmed for a third season and if they have an extra long episode like season one or extend it by a few episodes they might be able to wrap it up.

There wasn’t ever a time while I was reviewing this show that I wasn’t looking forward to the next episode. That’s a rare occurrence for a lot of shows but this one has a little bit of something anyone can look forward to. I’m a bit worried the romance isn’t going to live up to my expectations but at the very least the journey has been enjoyable. Season three is going to be awesome and hopefully we don’t have to wait too long.
