English Dub Review: Mission – Yozakura Family “Mission Complete; Reception”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The Yozakura Family apprehend Makoto and return home for the big wedding day.

OUR TAKE

We have finally made it to the end of the mission. I was going to say Mission Accomplished but that would seem both kinda redundant what with the first title and also pretty hacky if I’m being completely honest. But yeah, this season is done and dusted, with the first half mainly being about wrapping up the battle against Tanpopo (as well as highlighting how far Taiyo has come not only as a spy or assassin himself, but also how he has learned to fight well with all of his in-laws, being the lynch pin in defeating Makoto once and for all). All the agents have either been defeated or diffused, the water contamination plot has been thwarted, and Makoto himself has been apprehended, though he hints at pursuing his plans further in the future. Also, Momo Yozakura gets away, but his allegiances are kinda muddy right now so him escaping might be a good thing in the long run? Plus I just looked up some stuff about his past on the wiki that I won’t spoil here but…definitely lay some concerning implications about the family tree of the Yozakuras. I guess if we get a second season then maybe I’ll get a chance to talk about what the heck I mean.

And so, with a kinda funny and kinda cringy (at least in regards to the bits about Kyoichiro’s very weird obsession with Mutsumi) wedding reception, that’s the end of the first season. I’ll go more into detail about my thoughts in the season review, but this season has pretty much been about Taiyo’s journey from shy cry baby to fully confident super agent with special powers, a kick ass family, and a cute wife, so…yeah, wins all around for this guy. If I remember right from what I read, this is basically the end of the first big part of the story, with what comes later involving a time skip, by which point our newly wedded happy couple actually have a kid, so I guess we have that to look forward to if this gets more episodes. I suppose if I had to give any knocks against this finale, it’s just that it felt kind of plain? It checked all the essentials off the list but it didn’t feel like anything more than that. But maybe that’s all it needed to be. Either way, we’ll see ya for when we look back and wrap it all up.
