English Dub Review: Fairy Tail – 100 Years Quest “The Demons’ Parade”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

With the newly resurrected Aquarius’ help, the team is able to defeat another one of Selene’s minions and return everyone to normal. Meanwhile, Faris returns to the White Mages in her world and finds they have hired one of Diabolos’ members: Suzaku, one of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights.

OUR TAKE

Well, looks like this quest supposedly meant to be a hundred years is coming to an end, or at least a considerable break, as it turns out this series is gonna pause at its twenty fifth episode. Honestly, that’s probably a good method for them to use, especially when adapting an ongoing manga these days. Gone are the days of just adapting a couple chapters a week and praying desperately to not catch up and then, when you do eventually and inevitably catch up, making a year or two of filler to possibly give yourself some breathing room. Unless you’re Boruto, which eventually succumbed to that same fate too, it’s best to just do a six month run of the first chunk of the story, let people get a taste for the show, and then come back later when there’s more demand and people have a chance to miss it. So, it’s looking like we’ll be finishing this first season with the end of the current arc, so I guess we’ll just have to try and finish strong won’t we? And what better way to do that than…turning a bunch of characters into monsters for a couple minutes? What better way, I ask you?

Yeah, this is another not great one, this time highlighting another one of Selene’s minions, the one who can summon yokai and I guess also turn people into them. But it also shows that, in this new world where magic is much more potent and unstable, Lucy can summon Aquarius without a key, something she has apparently been unable to do since that key was broken. I did not watch far enough into the old show to see this event, but I am at least familiar with most of the other Zodiac Spirits she summons here, which is apparently all of them aside from Libra and Pisces, which the fan wiki says are with a different character. So, at least in terms of story significance, we’re seeing how characters are learning to adapt to this weird place. But we also have another threat from Diabolos looming as the first of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights arrives with the task of capturing Selene. But still, it’s not like this new character is going to get in the way of our heroes being the ones to beat this boss fight, right? That would be pretty anticlimactic for the end of a season, right? RIGHT?
