English Dub Review: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War “Don’t Chase A Shadow”

Overview:

The change in Mayuri’s Spiritual Pressure is also felt elsewhere by Urahara and Kyoraku.

Our Take:

The fight between Shunsui and Lille is a classic shonen fight. It’s always fascinating how much information characters give their opponents during these fights and it more or less comes in two flavors. You have the character who thinks their victory is already a forgone conclusion and doesn’t think there is anything wrong with telling their enemy about their abilities because there’s nothing they can do in their mind. Then you have the characters that have “been holding back” the whole time so now they have to explain why they aren’t dead. That’s why Ichigo is such a G to me, because to my recollection he doesn’t do this he just throws hands.

Other than that filler arc I also don’t remember anyone’s Zanpakuto having a physical form other than Ichigo. But in this episode, we got to see Shunsui’s Zanpukto’s form and it takes the shape of a woman named Ohana. I could be misinterpreting but it also felt to me like Shunsui and Ohana had been umm… “physical” before. Honestly, anime has so much weird shit I wouldn’t be surprised but that was something I wasn’t expecting.
