English Dub Review: Bleach-Thousand Year Blood War “Baby Hold Your Hand”

Overview:

Kenpachi and Mayuri’s group advanced through Vier Ast.

Our Take:

There are a few characters in Bleach I can’t stand. Mayuri Kurotsuchi would have been one of those characters before this episode. Don’t get me wrong he’s still an awful person but in this episode, I had a lot of fun watching him pull his mad scientist schtick on the bad guys. Suppose I’m being honest though his Zanpakuto creeps me out. The hilt is a baby’s face and he does things to it to activate its powers and it’s weird, don’t get me started on the bankai.

I barely remember what his bankai was like in older episodes, but either it evolved or he had a power he had previously held back. If it was the latter, then this was the perfect enemy for him to face, as this Quincy was able to manipulate people’s nerves. Mayuri’s newest bankai power shoots out a baby who’s nerves are on the outside and can go toe to toe with the enemy.

I’ve gained a lot of newfound respect for Mayuri but I hope we never have to see that bankai ever again. I do hope that Kenpachi is alright after having his arm twisted off, if it was anyone else I’d be concerned but something tells me he’ll be alright.
