English Dub Review: After School Hanako-Kun Episode 6
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
The Genderbend Episode!
OUR TAKE
Oh good, more of this thing. Well, at least this week we’ve got a premise for an episode that’s a bit easier for me to explain, as the description said, this week the writer decided to see Hanako in a skirt with a female body and went the Rule 63 route by having him turn into a girl for a bit. And because Hanako is already a randy little bugger, his personality does not change in the slightest and he basically just uses this as an opportunity to peep in the girl’s bathroom…which is something he does already because he is a ghost that haunts the girl’s bathroom. I honestly cannot tell if this is for or against the usual anti-trans propaganda of trans women trying to sneak into bathrooms, since the character in question does that all the time when he is a boy. Maybe it’s just anti ghosts who are spiritually bound to bathrooms? I guess look out Moaning Myrtle in that case, but the genders are reversed there so she’s more likely to get a pass by society, unfortunately.
The other segment of the episode involves two other characters whom I do not know the names of because I have not seen the show this spin-off comedy series is based on and I feel the need to point that out in every review because otherwise I don’t really have anything to say. There’s a guy and a girl, the girl gets turned into a guy (even though the voice actress just deepens her voice) and the guy has to reckon with the possibility of loving her even if she becomes a man, to which he decides he will, so…progressive? Hooray? I guess that’s all well and good then if the message is just “love people for who they are and if they change their gender or are even apathetic about their gender then they still deserve love too”, which is a message I think we can all get behind. But there are still two more episodes of this damn thing left, meaning exactly twenty minutes of content left, So look forward to that I guess!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
