Overview
Join the revolution before it’s too late! The thrilling, heart-stopping, eye-bulging finale to Youth in Rickvolt is here.
After Rick’s eye has been impregnated by an underground alien creature, the key to his survival lies in the hands of the very person who wants to destroy him: Revolution Morty! But could this scarred Morty be looking for something else? Something deeper? Mortys are always so emotional. Meanwhile, the Revolution World has started producing cataclysmic-level earthquakes, threatening to take Rick, the Smith family, and this whole damn revolution with it.
From writer Michael Moreci (Dick Tracy, Barbaric) and Tony Gregori (Rick and Morty: Super Spring Break Special, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) witness the conclusion to the four-part revolutionary Rick and Morty epic.
Our Take
It’s so wild how big the Rick and Morty-verse is and some of the great writers that have come from and continue to come from the comics series that I think would be more than serviceable for other projects from the once venerable franchise. Michael Moreci is one of those and it showcases quite a bit in this month’s issue of Rickvolt.
Is the plot a tad derivative? Perhaps. We’ve seen Rick and Morty go through a whole host of alternate-versal characters that have turned out just fine, but Moreci’s dialogue is so fucking good you still can’t help but feel the gravity of what’s going on here. The ending means more and it comes through in script that is very well-written even if there aren’t a TON of big scenes to really shake a stick at, the comatose nature of the wrap up was actually kind of a soothing landing rather than any grand showmanship.
I don’t know if we got to see a ton of variety in the art direction of this final issue with Tony Gregori helming the art. As we get to the final panels it gets better but I didn’t notice anything truly grand in terms of how things wrapped up and that’s probably okay. Overall a solid, if not stellar, wrap up of this limited run.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
