Review: American Dad “Under (and Over, and Beside) the Boardwalk”

Overview

It’s the grand reopening of the old Langley Falls boardwalk, and no one’s more pumped than the Smiths.

Our Take

This week’s episode of American Dad is proof that if it didn’t have a certain savior show up at the end, it kinda would have been a clunker. Other than the fact that we really just got the whole gang spending a day at the boardwalk, there wasn’t a bunch going on this week. Until…HOLY SHIT IT’S BRET “THE HITMAN” HART!

Like undeniably it’s Bret Hart, coming to save the day and return volley an incoming tidal wave that nearly takes out Langley Falls. Fortunately, Bret saves this week’s episode from sub-mediocrity and nestles it square in the “at least we had THAT happen” category that should be memorable for fans for years to come. Oh, that and Steve babysitting a kid and cussing him out which makes me want to see this episode immediately as it becomes available to stream on Hulu.

As mentioned, other than some fun sight gags in the background and the occasional one-liner, everything else was pretty much paint-by-numbers American Dad. We’ve seen Roger attempting to get into exclusive gatherings a number of times, Stan in a competition that only he cares about, and Francine and Hayley having a squabble about something that didn’t really register. The honest only reason to watch this week’s episode of American Dad is the excellent cameo work. I actually hope we get a sequel episode of this week’s episode just to see if anybody else comes to save the town next time,.
