English Dub Review: Insomniacs After School “Piscis Austrinus -Fomalhaut-“

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Now official members of the Astronomy Club, Ganta and Isaki go to an alumni of the old club to think of some activities.

OUR TAKE

What started as a story about two teenagers being able to meet and hang out at night due to their insomnia has already shifted to being about them maintaining a club of their own. But also, what started for me as a show where I knew everyone’s name has become a show where I apparently mixed up the name of their advisor, Usako, with the name of the character first introduced here, Yui, who acts as a bit of a mentor when Ganta and Isaki find her and ask questions about what they can do to make the club seem real to the committee. And through doing so, they soon learn just how much they don’t know about Astronomy, Yui starts showing them stuff about how to use a camera to properly photograph stars at night. Now they can plan a viewing party to bring people together at night to view the stars the right way, maintaining the club as a proper place to gather and keeping their insomnia from their friends. Interesting how I first thought that the reason Ganta didn’t want to share that detail was because he wanted to spend time with Isaki all by himself, but now they’re planning on bringing in lots of people just to maintain a place to sleep!

Already we’re seeing the cast balloon bit by bit, which is neat considering that the first episode really just focused on these two meeting each other and realizing they shared a neat but frustrating condition. But with each episode, we meet new people who are showing both Ganta and Isaki a path forward to seeing a world full of new connections and possibilities that they previously only saw as lonely and a reminder of what set them apart from other people. Last week the main addition to the cast was Usako, who really couldn’t care less about Astronomy at the time but is now championing them to explore it further. This week, it’s Yui, who clearly still has a strong passion for stargazing but had thought it was something that no one else would care about, due to the Astronomy club itself seemingly going by the wayside after she graduated high school, so now she’s all for trying to keep that from happening again. I think that’s something we can all be thankful for, so on that note, Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Bubbleblabber!
