English Dub Review: Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest “God Seeds”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Aldoron releases more God Seeds to fight off Fairy Tail, among them one who represents his brain.

OUR TAKE

We’re in the endgame now for the Aldoron arc and if Fairy Tail knows how to do anything, it’s introduce a bunch of new random characters at the tail end of a story arc to add a whole bunch more fights. In this case, it turns out the God Seeds that popped up last episode to copy everybody is just one of a few different types. The one that can copy someone in an opponent’s mind is called Wolfen, which Natsu manages to defeat in a pretty clever move by making turn into Zeref, his brother and former antagonist who has a curse that makes him destroy everything around him if he’s near his most precious thing…in this case being all of Aldoron himself. That at least takes out the threat of having to fight anyone else from their past, though now they have to face a couple more minibosses who are all pretty unremarkable. I almost don’t really want to dignify them by saying their names but I have a minimum word count to adhere to, so yeah. Lucy, Gray, and Juvia are now facing off against one named Metro, Jellal fights one named Gears, and Wendy helps boost a few minor Fairy Tail members to confront Doom, who dies at the end of the episode.

And to be completely frank, you could very easily switch out any of those names with each other and they would all fit virtually the same amount. With only two more episodes to go, these guys are not going to last nearly long enough to be worth remembering. The only real one of note is the one that identifies as Aldoron himself as it controls his brain and holds his memories, revealing Aldoron’s past of creating the cities on top of him as he grew larger. Which I guess means that at some point there actually WERE real people living there in those buildings? Last episode made it seem like some sort of front or money laundering scheme. Then again, if you’re making a bunch of people and pretending they’re real, would you have to pay more taxes to keep up the charade? At that point you might as well just reveal they’re all just you so maybe you can get a write-off of some kind. Either way, I’m about ready for this arc to be fully over, and the penultimate episode is on its way next week.
