English Dub Review: Fairy Tail : 100 Years Quest “Burning Will”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Fairy Tail uses the last of their strength to finally defeat Aldoron, while outside forces plot their next move from the shadows.

OUR TAKE

And that’s finally a wrap on the Aldoron arc! Well, apparently the next episode also counts as part of it, possibly as a wrap up, but Aldoron himself is actually dead now and the battle is over. It’s satisfying to see it finish, if only because things got dragged out WAY too long, but given how much things have been tacked on in the last few episodes, it’s really just a relief that we’re finally done with it more than anything else, since I can easily say that this feels like a step down from the last arc. Compared to the at least attempt at moral nuance and ambiguity regarding the situation with Mercphobia, Aldoron turns out to be just as much of an asshole as you might expect, saying that he only considers humans to be food, even though he let them live on his back in multiple cities for centuries. You’d think that having such an intimate relationship to a group like that which you would let live on you and provide home and shelter to would give him some sort of understanding or sympathy towards people, even if they are basically the size of ants relative to him, but…nope!

Though I do understand wanting to have all of these Dragon Gods be different from each other in how they approach not only their powers but their outlooks on the world around them. Mercphobia was actually a decent guy who looked out for the people around him, while Ignia seems to prefer solitude (at least based on the fact that he seems like a jerk who doesn’t get along with people). Aldoron is kind of a confusing case for the reasons stated above who I kind of expected to see things more complicated than just that humans are simply food, but…well, he’s gone now, and he got a big punch from a giant Gajeel. Speaking of Gajeel, he definitely sounds like he’s got a new voice actor to replace David Wald, though they haven’t confirmed anyone permanent yet. However, I think I may recognize the voice they did pick for this episode, but I don’t remember the name quite yet. Maybe by next week they’ll confirm who will be taking up the role…and also confirm they’ve stopped going through voice actors’ mail, but perhaps that’s too much to hope for. Either way, come back next time for the TRUE end to the Wood Dragon God Arc!
