English Dub Review: Demon Lord, Retry! R “ReMind”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Eagle reminisces on her life after being separated from Luna as the situation with her comes to a head. Meanwhile, Kunai gets a surprise visitor with an equally surprising request.
Our Take:
Luna’s relationship with her Falconfolk friend, Eagle, has played a role in the show’s final stretch of the first season. It showcased Luna striving to be a Holy Maiden to save Eagle from discrimination, but it also resulted in the latter being sentenced to death. However, as it turns out in the previous episode, Eagle is still alive, but that doesn’t mean all is well for the demihuman. As Luna heads north to rescue Eagle, the episode focuses on what Eagle has been up to after she was exiled from the kingdom. Long story short, her life as a discriminated scavenger has been nothing but a living hell, and the Right Order Knights pursuing her didn’t help much either.
As for the second half of the episode, we see Kunai still struggling to find a solution to counter magic attacks. Fortunately, his luck may have started to turn for the spa-running demon lord as he encounters a reclusive S-rank adventurer named Organ. Kunai is tasked with helping her and her partner, Mink, to travel to the Demon Lands to assassinate Archfiend Belphegor, who’s on his way to becoming the Demon King. But here’s the catch: Belphegor is also Organ’s father. So, it sounds like there will be some tension in this dysfunctional family. One thing I should mention is that in the English dub, Organ is voiced by Emi Lo, who’s usually known for voicing younger female and male characters. I could only say that Lo did a suitable job matching Organ’s apathetic personality so far.
“ReMind” is also coincidentally the same name as the DLC content for “Kingdom Hearts III”, but don’t expect Sora to make an appearance in this episode. Instead, it has a respectable flashback sequence emphasizing Eagle’s internal struggle facing discrimination and guilt of putting others at risk due to her involvement. The episode also has Kunai in another team-up situation with the other adventurers in an attempt to protect himself from magic attacks. The direction of its drama and comedy in this episode faltered heavily in its isekai formula. However, I should still be grateful that the season is progressing the plot instead of grinding to a halt with some needless recap filler.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
