English Dub Review: Demon Lord, Retry! R “ReCruit”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
News of Kunai’s exploits reaches other nations around the world. How will they respond?
Our Take:
It didn’t take us too long to get to the real deal of the season’s plot. The first two episodes were undoubtedly nothing but filler that gets people up to speed with Demon Lord, Retry!. However, they could just, you know, watch the show itself to get further context for its straightforward plot and characters. Fortunately, the previous episode compensated profoundly by actually continuing where the season one finale left off. So, now we’re getting close to knowing who or what Kunai may be up against while maintaining success with his day spa and reputation.
While we don’t know this identity in this episode, it did continue to offer more insight into what we should expect in the season. One of which is the introduction to Queen Beatrice, another ruler of a different kingdom assisted by Kongming, who might’ve been another Demon Lord responsible for exiling Beatrice’s father so they could rule as they see fit. However, Beatrice is also equivalent to the Holy Maidens regarding their personalities. While she’s high and mighty, Beatrice is also overly sensitive and vocal, mainly because of the archbishop’s “perverted” compliment toward her womanly body. The episode also introduced us to another summon by Kunai, Akane Fujisaki, an athletic schoolgirl whose cuteness and cheerfulness often compensate for her lack of intellect. I’m not sure how much of a role she’ll have compared to Yu and Tahara in the season, but regarding her first impression, I’m guessing not by much.
But the real meat of the plot is the surprising truth behind the fate of Luna’s demihuman friend, Eagle. The series has explored the early friendship between Luna and Eagle, tragically concluding with the latter’s “death” as Luna embarked on her quest to become the Holy Maiden. Fortunately, “ReCruit” reveals that Eagle is still alive but is also enslaved, resulting in Luna journeying to reunite with her childhood friend. So, it looks like Kunai isn’t the only person on a personal quest this season, but which character would it pay attention to the most?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
