English Dub Season Review: No Longer Allowed in Another World Season One

The Isekai genre is one that is tried and tested, with it being a cliche to even say it’s a cliche at this point. Notable variations after a couple decades of entries are few and far between, which is why it was such a pleasant surprise to find No Longer Allowed in Another World. This follows the misadventures of a legally distinct version of Osamu Dazai, a famous real life author known for taking his own life with his lover. It seems someone wondered where he went after that as this story brings “Sensei” to a seemingly typical fantasy isekai world, complete with getting his own party of an elf healer, catgirl fighter, and little boy swindler. While it’s not clear right away, the true hook of the story eventually makes itself known: this world is actually quite full of “otherworlders”, people who were killed and reincarnated here. And not only that, many of them have main character syndrome, among them seven who become known as the Seven Fallen Angels who emerge as the show’s main threats. Not that we’ll get to see all of them by the end of this season since…we’ll need something for if they get another season after all.

If you’re like me, and I know I am, you’re probably sick to death of Isekai shows and all their associated trappings. But even so, I would genuinely suggest you give this a shot. It feels like it understands how much of a well trodden road those familiar with the genre will have been on. And while having multiple regular humans reincarnated at separate times is not anything new if you’ve watched Shield Hero or Reincarnated as a Slime, their impact on the world they arrive in isn’t something I’ve seen handled or examined the way it is here, with them being tolerated to get larger tasks done, but often seen as a nuisance and a threat as they often cause trouble for their own amusement. I guess I should be talking about the other characters besides Sensei, but the truth is that I really just find the world more interesting than the characters involved. And I think you will too if you go ahead and give this show a watch! It really seems like the kind that could very likely get a second season, especially with how this season leaves off, so hurry up and catch up before then!
