English Dub Review: True Beauty “Goddess Livestream”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The day has come: it’s time for the final mission! The goddess candidates have to gather votes during a livestream. Disheartened by the rumors and the recent dating news, Jugyeong decides to quit, but her friends try everything to change her mind.
Our Take:
I don’t think I’ve ever been this upset over a show since the first part of the final season of “Cobra Kai”. Because of Suho’s dumbass decision from Sujin’s blackmail, Seojun was the first to confess his love for Jugyeong. Unfortunately, that isn’t enough to fill the empty void Jugyeong had over the “rumors” of Suho dating Sujin. But in reality, Sujin threatened him to “date” her or she’ll upload Jugyeong’s identity for the entire world to see. That still doesn’t excuse Suho for breaking Jugyeong’s heart instead of doing the right thing. It also doesn’t help that this, along with the rumors tarnishing Jugyeong’s image, happened before the competition’s final mission, which allows the contestants to get votes during a livestream.
One of the things I should credit True Beauty for is that Sua is one hell of a supportive friend. She and her friend not only accepted Jugyeong for her true, kind self, but Sua is also very perseverant in her own crazy way. Despite Jugyeong pushing her away, she stands her ground to ensure that Jugyeong understands the important meaning of beauty. It’s not how you look on the outside. It’s who they are on the inside. That, and a whole lot of courage to boot. Unfortunately, despite Jugyeong’s hopes of proving her innocence and exposing Sujin, the selfish bitch made everything worse by spinning Jugyeong’s truth against her. At this point, I’m not feeling sorry for Sujin for living with her abusive mother.
“Goddess Livestream” is the first of the two-part event that turns up the heat for the final competition and even my blood pressure. It’s something we’ve seen before in other high school dramas, especially regarding its commentary on social media affecting people’s self-esteem. However, it’s still doing a fine job making me want to throw Sujin out of the school window. Although, from the looks of the episode’s ending, Sujin may not be the only person I wanted to throw out the window.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
