English Dub Review: Oshi No Ko “Growth”

Overview:

Melt regrets his poor acting in Sweet Today and vows to improve in Tokyo Blade. However, how can a subpar actor stand out among exceptional ones?

Our Take:

Doga Kobo studios is cooking right, the art style for this episode was amazing. Seeing all of Melt’s experiences mold around him and show how focused and determined he is now. Melt is an interesting name but I have to say I felt for the guy. Everything has come to him so easy (dubious first sexual experience aside) that he’s never had to try for anything. He thought he could become a great actor based on his looks alone. His poor performance on Sweet Today was a wake-up call and I couldn’t be more proud of him. It’s not often a low-tier supporting character gets this much screentime and focus but this was a great episode.

Melt wouldn’t have known what to do if he didn’t swallow his pride and ask Aqua for advice. Aqua told him that it would be better to focus on one thing really hard and use his reputation as a crappy actor to his advantage. Since the crowd underestimates Melt he decided to do something to catch their attention when their guard was down and boy did it work. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the play turns out.
