English Dub Review: Suicide Squad Isekai Episode 10

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The Suicide Squad face their final battle against the Undead Lich King.

OUR TAKE

Fuck man, I don’t know what to tell you, this ending was a mess. Partly because it kinda wasn’t an ending! Like maybe a season finale that sets some things up but mostly leaves things unresolved, but just about the only thing it resolved was dealing with an enemy who only popped up last episode! I mean okay, technically there’s been foreshadowing that there’s been something up with Fione’s mom for awhile now, but surely, SURELY, there could have been means to establish who the Undead King was before their reveal. Though that’s certainly not the only thing that they pretend was properly foreshadowed, but we’ll get to that. First I gotta talk about all the stuff that was introduced AND finished just within this final episode. Enchantress’ body was somewhere out there but is then found to use against her! Killer Croc had a sea monster friend who is then quickly turned against him to lead to his defeat! Apparently magical armor exists that can give all of the Squad special abilities and costumes (that admittedly look pretty cool and should’ve been their fantasy world outfits this whole time to be frank)! But none of that, including Fione finally paying off her resemblance to Harley, even comes close to the sheer fucker that came from the final twist of the series.

Turns out The Joker has actually been this world the whole time and has been hiding through an inexplicable ability to shapeshift into other characters. Noticed a character acting inconsistent with their personality? Well turns out it was actually The Joker! Think a character was actually acting totally in character because their character hadn’t actually been fleshed out enough to tell when they were out of it? ALSO The Joker! Why did he do any of this? What were his end goals? How did he gain the abilities he now has? Find out in a second season that will never EVER come because I don’t see any possible timeline where they make more of this! It REALLY feels like they were initially promised more episodes than they got and then had to squish at least a few down into this finale, and that’s not something done when a studio has a lot of faith or interest in a project continuing. But dammit, I gotta watch it all again for the Season Review next week, so maybe we can sift out some kernels of what this show could’ve been with a bit more direction.
