English Dub Review: The Duke of Death and His Maid “The Duke of Death and His Maid”

With the curse broken, the Duke, Alice, and everyone else move on to the next stage of their lives.

Our Take:

What a wonderful ending to a wonderful series! Not only that but I can finally call the Duke by his name instead of calling him the Duke all the time. Turns out that his name is Victor and I have to say I’m not the least surprised about that after hearing how big a deal his grandfather was. This series ended exactly like I hoped it would but like most romance anime it does the one thing I hate more than anything. We finally see the couple come together and kiss but right after that it ends. In this case, I’m not even slightly joking, the episode ended maybe a minute after they locked lips.

Victor and Alice weren’t the only ones to lock lips in this episode though because Walter and Daleth had to kiss as well for her to become a human. It seems like the mother will allow Daleth and Walter to marry which opens up some questions for me. The mother has always been an enigma in the series because she has seemed heartless and cruel but of course, she loves her children and just wants to see them happy. I wished there was a little more lead-up to that because it seems like she became loving out of nowhere. But why did Victor have to put aside being the heir to marry Alice but Walter didn’t to marry Daleth? Sure, Sade lied and said they run a country but come on she isn’t going to believe that without a follow-up right?

Nitpicks aside I’m very happy this show even got an ending. A lot of anime aren’t as lucky to receive a full adaptation these days. It ended in a great way and I can’t wait to give a season review and final send-off for this fantastic series.
