English Dub Review: The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess “The Princess of Aruka Kingdom”

Overview

It’s not every day that one unintentionally starts a war, but that’s the situation Komari finds herself in. At least things can’t get any worse, right?

Our Take

This time around, Komari’s peaceful life is further upended by the outbreak of war, making her situation more complicated. The episode also delves into the connections between Nelia Cunningham and the Gandesblood family, fleshing out Komari’s mother’s established history. Despite Komari’s desire for tranquility, Nelia’s proclamation of war against the alliance drags her into the conflict, with a significant meeting taking place right in her bedroom.

At the fortress city of Faure, chaos erupts as the Empress declares war with a massive explosion. Komari, tasked with executing pre-planned strategies, relies on the other generals for protection. Nelia, seeking to clear up a misunderstanding from their youth, enlists Komari’s help to eliminate corruption in her kingdom. This leads to an unexpected “greeting” that leaves Villhaze jealous, but they proceed to formulate a plan…

Overall, the episode manages to blend political intrigue with character development, though it struggles with pacing and coherence at times. The war’s sudden onset and the introduction of numerous characters and plot points can be overwhelming. Yet, the chemistry between Komari and Villhaze, as well as the backstory involving Nelia, keeps the proceedings compelling. Despite its flaws, And with two episodes left, it sets the stage for potentially exciting developments in the upcoming season finale.
