English Dub Review: Viral Hit “The Devil”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
With Pakgo finally out of the picture and a new video editor on board, Hobin and Snapper turn their attention to the next bully they are going to challenge.

Our Take:
It’s always satisfying to see the underdog finally triumph over their tormentors, and Hobin was no exception.  Hobin’s skills from the unknown channel helped him face his fears and finally put Pakgo in his place, further cementing the bully’s humiliation.  Because of this, Pakgo hasn’t returned to school since then, which I hope will remain for the remaining series.  While that may be the end of Pakgo’s reign of terror, that doesn’t mean Hobin’s problems are behind him, especially since he has a reputation to maintain.
Of course, before Hobin and Snapper continue making videos, they will need a professional editor to keep their channel from growing stale.  Fortunately, they immediately found one in the form of one of their followers, “Ding”, who happens to be the yellow-jacket-wearing young woman, Gaeul.  We briefly saw Gaeul throughout the past few episodes, spying on Hobin and watching his channel unfold.  Now, we get to see more of her in action, as she’s promoted from viewer to editor, although this is because Snapper has developed a crush on Gaeul.
In addition to their new editor, Hobin and Snapper also found themselves a new bully for the former to fight.  However, this bully isn’t from their school, as we are led to believe.  Instead, it’s a self-centered, heartless street thug who’s formally an MMA fighter specializing in taekwondo, Taehun Seong.  Through his swift reflexes and powerful fighting style, Taehun bullies his victims by using their friends as leverage, making them weak and powerless.  He also has a strong desire to be rich, resulting in him seeing an opportunity to steal Hobin’s channel from him.
With “The Devil”, the series has quickly gone from a “David vs. Goliath” scenario with Hobin and Pakgo to “Rocky IV” regarding Hobin taking on a ruthless MMA fighter.  So, we may be looking at the following episodes focusing on the protagonists training to fight Taehun since the authorities can’t handle this dilemma themselves.  Whether Taehun is just as maniacal and psychotic as Pakgo remains to be seen, although based on his attitude and lack of mercy in this episode, he might come close to being the worst bully in the entire country.
