English Dub Review: Vampire Dormitory “Love 6. The pretty boy is heartbroken?!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

After angering Ruka, Mito is whisked away to the beach by Takara and Juri.  While there, Mito steels herself to apologize to Ruka.  Meanwhile, Ruka decides to make something as an apology to Mito, but Maina stops by, and dramatic tensions unfold.

Our Take:

Mito and Ruka get into another scuffle when Mito gets caught sleeping with Ren.  With this love triangle now being formed between the three, it seems that things will get a lot trickier to endure regarding their goals.  This week’s episode shows that the one way to ease the tension is to play hooky and embark on a trip to the beach.  During their relaxing getaway, Mito learns from Juri that he’s been having a crush on Takara for a while.  Considering that the show is about a girl pretending to be a guy that Ruka’s in love with, it’s pretty nice that we’re getting more LGBT love in anime, one that doesn’t involve cross-dressing.  Of course, this confession inspired Mito to apologize to Ruka for running off.  Coincidentally, Ruka has the same idea, except he’s making a special dessert as an apology gift to Mito.

However, his plan gets put on hold when he encounters Maina, who arrives at the cafe to confess her love, causing Ruka to get a mysterious migraine. As Maina takes him back to the dorm, Mito expresses her concerns that Ruka might not need her anymore because she believes Ruka may have found that “destined someone.”  That is until she and Juri find Ruka’s apology dessert. She returns to Ruka’s dorm and proclaims she wants to be by his side.

Fortunately for Mito, Ruka already dismissed Maina’s confession, and Maina stated that she would support Mito and Ruka’s relationship.  However, that doesn’t mean we’re safe from the show’s “love triangle aspect, as Ren stated that he’s also in love with Mito.  While that element could make or break the series depending on the execution, the episode should get credit for its LGBT representation regarding the relationship between Takara and Juri.  The question now is whether the show will follow up on that potential.
