English Dub Review: The Misfit of Demon King Academy “Moon of Creation”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Mythical Age. In an effort to destroy the Moon of Creation, Anos meets the Goddess of Creation Militia and begins to interact with her. And now the present… Anos, who has made his identity as the Demon King of Tyranny known throughout the world, joins classes at Demon King Academy as the transfer student, Anoshu. To train even stronger demons, Erdomaid instates the Great Demon King Drills. As the first initiative, swordsmanship training under Shin begins!
Our Take:
Anos has regained his status as the true Demon King of Tyranny after rescuing Misa from the clutches of traditions and rumors. However, that doesn’t mean his story is over. After a hiatus that lasted almost a year, the second season of The Misfit of Demon King Academy has returned with another magical adventure with Anos and his faithful comrades. Hopefully, with COVID-19 behind us, we won’t have to worry too much about the show being postponed for months, unlike the season’s first part. However, I do have to consider whether the final half of the season could live up to the exact expectations of the first half. After all, we experienced a heartfelt yet tragic history between Shin and Great Spirit Leno and Anos confronting another Avos, which was Misa controlled by traditions and rumors.
So, how do we start the second half? By beginning where the previous episode’s ending left off. The episode starts with Anos visiting the Goddess of Creation Militia, but only to take down the Moon of Creation, which is said to give birth to people who kill. However, this isn’t the main focus of the episode. Instead, it centers on Anos in the present following his exposure as the Demon King of Tyranny to the entire world. Unfortunately for him, it comes with the downside of not attending Demon King Academy to avoid further uproar. This resulted in him disguising himself as a six-year-old transfer student named Anoshu to attend more classes with his allies because a child is way less suspicious than a young adult.
The episode then showcases Erdomaid instating a new series of classes known as the Great Demon King Drills, with the purpose of making weaker demons formidable enough to protect the village from harm. One of these classes includes sword training, with Shin as the instructor. Of course, it isn’t without a family issue that could come into play in later episodes, as Lay was eager to give Shin his blessing to marry Misa. I think we all know how that turned out. Additionally, Anos, in his disguise, encounters Ramon, who takes him to the Royalist leader, who is plotting to use the captured monster to overthrow the Demon King of Tyranny. Thankfully, Anos managed to foil that plan and bring the Royalist leader to his knees.
Like the season’s first episode, “Moon of Creation” is more of a taste of what we can expect from future episodes. In addition to the mysterious Moon of Creation and Emelia’s new role, we might expect more family drama between Lay and Shin amid Misa’s concern about her true form. As usual, the only issues that could drag the remaining episodes down are the crappy CGI effects and the convoluted world-building. Lucky for me, this episode wasn’t too complicated to follow along despite the iffy CGI for the dragon.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
