English Dub Review: The Irregular at Magic High School “English Dub Review: The Irregular at Magic High School “Double Seven Part 2”

Overview

The entrance ceremony has ended, and club recruitment of the freshmen has begun. Amidst the competitive recruitment frenzy, the Robot Research Club and Motorcycle Club were getting in a heated stare off over a freshman that both clubs were aiming to recruit. Kasumi, from the Disciplinary Committee, and Shippou, from the Extracurricular Activities Federation, intervene. However, now the two who had come to break up the fight begin arguing amongst themselves over who should have authority over the situation and were on the brink of initiating a physical fight. Meanwhile, Koichi, the head of the Saegusa Family, was devising a plan to mitigate the Yotsuba Family’s power through a false anti-magician campaign that the USNA’s Humanist Extremist group was drawing up for the media.

Our Take

Following the school entrance ceremony, the clubs kick off their recruitment activities, sparking a rivalry between the Robotics Club and the Bicycle Club. Kozumi from the Disciplinary Committee and Nanaho from the Clubs Executive Board step in as mediators but end up clashing over control, escalating tensions. Meanwhile, Hirokazu, the head of the Nanakusa family, uses media campaigns by humanism followers to weaken the Yotsuba family’s influence.

As the recruitment tensions rise, Miyuki and Tatsuya address an issue at the Robotics Club garage, which the student council resolves without penalties. Shippou, a new student, causes further disruptions, drawing interest from Kasumi. Kasumi seeks advice from Saegusa, who notes Shippou’s meticulous planning and risk-averse nature. Meanwhile, discussions reveal that military use of magic is being framed as a human rights issue, with conspiracies suggesting more is going on behind the scenes…

Overall, the political intrigue deepens as Tatsuya interacts with Ayako Kuroba, confirming the school’s alleged military ties. The episode blends intense dialogue with world-building, highlighting the complex relationships and strategies at play. Despite some minor criticisms regarding its 3D animation quality, the story progresses with political intrigue and character dynamics, setting the stage for future storylines and potential conflicts down the road. Hopefully all of it has a payoff later on.
