English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime “Two Sides Meeting”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Hinata discusses the return of Veldora with some of the other Saints and, despite her reservations about attacking him and Rimiru so soon, is given a great blade specifically for fighting dragons. She and some of the Saints then head to Tempest, much to Rimiru’s surprise.

OUR TAKE

Huh, in a considerable contrast to last week, which was pretty much just taking the minutes of the most rudimentary Tempest board meeting, this week brings us the first time witnessing the meeting of The Ten Great Saints of the Holy Western Empire, who will no doubt be a big part of the story for this season. Since her big first appearance last season and major battle against Rimiru, Hinata has been standing menacingly in the background, waiting to re-enter the story with a vengeance, not just because of that phrasing, but also because she still may associate Rimiru with Shizu’s death, not knowing the full context there. However, it seems now that Rimiru has gained both the power and title of a Demon Lord, she has managed to become more cautious and deliberate with her plan of attack, as well as understanding that he may not even wish to attack them in the first place. However, this is not entirely up to her, as many point out during the meeting, and just because Rimiru may CLAIM to not wish to start a fight and want to keep humans safe, they don’t exactly have reason to believe him.

So, even with Hinata’s concerns AND the advice of Luminous, the god they all swear fealty to, the Ten Saints are still hellbent on making this conflict happen. They certainly have reason to be antsy, considering a former ally, Falmuth, is now currently in the process of being taken over and will probably start a war with THEM sometime soon, but then there’s also Veldora, who was already a big factor in their movements before Rimiru got there and was sealed by Luminous in the first place, but is now back and in a form which has bare abs. Clearly things have taken a major shift against the wishes of the Holy Western Empire that it can no longer abide by. So, as much as I didn’t end up caring for last week’s episode, it did at least provide a compare and contrast between the set up of Tempest and the set up of the Empire, so now the stage is set for these two forces to collide next episode. That episode will probably be some form of negotiation that may not immediately lead into a big fight, but make no mistake, a big ol fight is coming, so I very much look forward to seeing that.
