English Dub Review: Re:Monster “Re:Stive”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
After packing up and leaving their old home behind, Parabellum end up in the town of Trient for a little while to give the humans among them a chance to leave if they want, though they all choose to stay. Instead, they end up employed by a local princess to take her to a different kingdom.
OUR TAKE
We begin the final third of the season and possibly show with a surprising change in location, putting everyone in a new setting than they’ve been the past eight episodes. The purpose, as mentioned, is to give the humans (who still don’t have actual names) a chance to leave the group since they were basically kidnapped in the first place. Problem is that they’ve basically had Stockholm Syndrome since the moment they’ve gotten there and so this option isn’t really much of an option at all. Once that’s out of the way, we basically move right along to introducing this new princess character, who thankfully is way too young for Gobrou to screw and gets the group to go on a new quest of taking her somewhere. Through this and an earlier scene, we get to see more of how Gobrou looked and behaved in his previous life, where he apparently still ate the things and people he fought. That tendency makes a little bit of sense considering he’s a giant monster man here, but as a regular-ish human, that’s a bit weird to be essentially a cannibal. Who knows if we’ll ever get much more insight into that in the episodes that are left but still, what the hell.
That said, I guess it’s kinda nice that Parabellum is actually making a big move, since it gives the vague gesture towards some sort of story progression. Taking on the job with this princess is sort of new arc, I guess, though who knows where the hell this is going. It’s certainly not going to develop much of the characters of the main cast by this point if that’s your worry. Heck, they could’ve used this episode as a chance to actually give the red head or the alchemist or one of the other humans an episode to themselves to figure all that out and make some significant onscreen choices, but I guess none of that was important enough for us to get to see. Nope, gotta see Gobrou fight a giant chicken and get another big power up to throw on the pile of the other seventy eight powers he’s gained by eating over the three and the half months he’s been alive in this world. Just three episodes to go, I guess we’ll see what they come up with to possibly make them worth watching, though even if they don’t, I have to watch them anyway. Let’s see, the title for next episode is…Re:Fulgent?! Jesus Christ, why did they go with this whole naming theme if they couldn’t find twelve words that start with RE?! Ugh, just three to go, just three to go…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
