English Dub Review: Ragna Crimson “Reason to Fight”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Ragna has found a reason to fight, and he and the Argentum Corps will take the battle to the Blood of the Wing, no matter what Crimson thinks.

Our Take:

This week’s episode has Ragna and Crimson reuniting following their separation during the war against the dragon Monarchs.  However, to no one’s surprise, their reunion is far from pleasant, as their beliefs interfere with their goals again.  Crimson insists on spending three years training Ragna on the moon, but Ragna believes that Starlia survived her demise and they’ll win the war against the Monarchs despite the odds stacked against them.  The episode further intensifies the partnership between Ragna and Crimson, with Ragna realizing he wants to defeat the dragons for everyone to survive and Crimson fearing for Ragna fighting an impossible battle against Ultimatia.  Fortunately, despite the confrontation almost resulting in Ragna’s death by Crimson’s poison, Ragna returns to the corps to find that Starlia is alive due to her functioning silverine creations.

While Starlia’s recent status could be seen as a sign of relief, it’s not all good news for the profound princess.  It turns out that Starlia is also being held captive by Woltekamui, who’s forcing her to forge powerful swords for him and Ragna so he can have a fair rematch against the dragon killer.  Woltekamui hopes that killing Ragna will make him the most vigorous Monarch in existence, even overshadowing the Dragon God.  Meanwhile, Ultimatia and Elder discuss their status while Nebulim reverse-engineers Crimson’s globe chamber to develop a sun shield over the city.

However, from Crimson’s perspective, this means that Ultimatia may be unable to use time magic due to the sun shield.  This gives Crimson and his servants an opportunity to hunt Ultimatia themselves while Ragna and the corps distract the other Monarchs.  Along with Zora’s depressed state due to Taratectra’s death, this information should be the advantage Ragna and the others need to gain the upper hand as we approach the season’s final confrontation.  The voice acting was a bit forced at times, and the transitions were abrupt, but “Reason to Fight” offers another reason for me to get excited for the last few episodes.
