English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Shapeshifter”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
While in pursuit of Falin, Laios and crew seek shelter from a blizzard but are overrun by Shapeshifter copies of themselves. How will they spot the fakes?
Our Take:
The quest to rescue Falin begins again, with Laios and the gang heading down to the sixth floor. This section is where they first fought the Red Dragon, but now it is covered with snow. Following their exposition of the Mad Mage’s plot to search for King Delgal’s remains, the gang gets caught in a blizzard, forcing them to seek shelter in a prison tunnel. Unfortunately, upon arrival, they come across a group of Shapeshifters who can mimic people’s appearances by reading their victims’ minds, although they’re far from perfect copies.
The only person capable of distinguishing the crew from the copies is Laios, who seeks redemption for his actions in the previous episodes. However, based on his personality, this is easier said than done. His only solution is to pair the counterparts into teams and cook the recipes from the fifth floor so he can study them based on their actions, behaviors, and appearances. Although, it was obvious that the two Senshis were easily distinguishable based on the faces alone. Laios then unlocks his inner dog to draw out the Shapeshifters’ leader, leaving Marcille to finish the job.
Overall, this is another episode that deters away from the overall plot in favor of a comical scenario. While it isn’t without a few chuckles, it can be a bit tedious due to Laios’ personality and the two Senshis that I quickly figured out before Laios could. In short, this is one episode that’ll make you see double. The only crucial moments that had a purpose to the seasonal plot were the expositions about the Mad Mage and the ending, with the crew confronting a mysterious ninja-like stranger. Is he an ally or a foe working for the Mad Mage? We’ll have to wait next week to find out.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
