OUR TAKE
We introduce the seemingly last member of the main cast with the debut of Foll, who seems to be now the foster daughter of our main couple. Based on how she seemed in the OP and ED, I honestly expected that Foll would just sort of end up being the little trickster character who would go around playing pranks or be older than she looks or some other cliche that anime characters have with really short girls. But this show has, well, shown that it likes to take the more wholesome option when it can, so I guess we’re instead having her be like a seven year old girl who acts her age and is just helpful around the castle. She does arrive making a challenge towards Zagan because she was apparently a candidate to take the thirteenth Archdemon position, so she must be pretty powerful in magic on her own, but we’ll have to wait and see if that comes into play in the remaining five episodes. At the very least it seems that she’ll be a good ally to have if she’s that strong, and starting to form a familial bond will definitely come in handy if she needs to fight alongside them.
Based on the title for next week’s episode, it looks like we’ll get more time devoted to this found family beginning to form. Other than that, the only major development is Chastille officially cutting ties with the church, though it doesn’t sound like she’s burned that bridge entirely yet. She still has some allies who know that she was an honorable knight and hope that she’ll rejoin them again when the time is right, but the rest clearly don’t care for her or her sympathies towards Zagan. This is made worse by an approaching Holy Knight who is apparently the worst of them all, so his arrival likely spells a big fight ahead for Zagan and Nephy, as well as Chastille if she chooses to defend them. We’re probably building up to that as the big fight to close out the season on, which is fine by me if it means things are going to get interesting. So far, the show’s priorities have been on building the bond between Zagan and Nephy, with the magical worldbuilding pretty much secondary, so who knows how that may impact the writing of future threats. Let’s find out next week when we finish up the second third.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
