Smiling Friends: Adult Swim Replays First Season In Different Style For April Fool’s Day 2024 ; Season Two
Smiling Friends creators Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack were teasing a surprise tonight whilst at WonderCon 2024 and although fans, and many many outlets, were expecting the second season of the show to premiere, what we got instead, was a recreation of the show’s first season episodes done entirely in puppet with mixed in with some live-action thrown in there. Season two eventually did have its premiere at 12:45 am ET/PT.
Cute-looking caricatures inspired by our favorite Smiling Friends characters, dozens of interstitials, and hammed together ADR adorned the revamped episodes and looks to be a taste of what we can expect for the show’s second season which has is being promised to feature a variety of animation, such as 2D, 3D, stop motion, and live-action content.
Smiling Friends season two premieres on May 12th @ Midnight ET/PT, only on Adult Swim. Streams next day on MAX.
Synopsis:
Smiling Friends follows the employees of a small company dedicated to bringing happiness to a bizarre yet colorful world. The company consists of cynical Charlie and star employee Pim, each tasked with out-calls to cheer people up. There’s also meticulous Allan who keeps things in order, mysterious Glep, and the unpredictable billionaire Boss who founded the company.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
