English Dub Review: Shangri-La Frontier “Rare Items, Worth More Than Life Itself”

Overview

Sunraku returns to the Canyon Ancient Souls, where he encounters a swarm of Crystal Scorpions that are over level 100. Struggling to acquire the rare materials he seeks, Sunraku watches the scorpions’ movements and comes up with a secret plan…

Our Take

Sunraku embarks on a daring quest to confront the legendary Crystal Scorpions, only to find himself ensnared in their treacherous lair, the Crystal Nest Cliff. Despite the creatures’ cunning camouflage, Sunraku faces them head-on, relying on Bilac’s advice to navigate the perilous situation. Meanwhile, Emul’s frustrations are soothed by the comfort of familiar carrots, a small source of predictable warmth in their uncertain journey. Undeterred by setbacks, Sunraku persists, eventually discovering a trove of crystal loot, including the coveted Aroncaleth Hard Lapis.

With renewed determination fueled by the allure of the unknown, Sunraku ventures back to confront the Crystal Scorpions armed with newfound knowledge and a teleportation tool from Inventoria. Employing a strategic approach, he systematically dismantles the creatures, reaping valuable materials and loot along the way. However, a fatal misstep leads to Sunraku’s demise and a humbling return to Rabituza, prompting reflection on the unpredictable nature of their adventure. Despite the setback, Sunraku finds solace in Bilac’s praise for the rare items acquired, marking another chapter in their quest for greatness…

Overall, it’s another grinding episode that highlights the frustrations of dealing with the hard-ass difficulties in gaming. Despite the challenges posed by luck, Sunraku’s resourcefulness and determination shine in combination with some 3D effects with the scorpions being animated and thankfully not as ugly as past CG/anime hybrids. With the season finale approaching, it remains to be seen what direction it’ll take next!
