English Dub Review: Ragna Crimson “Latent Awakening”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

The tide is turning as the corps claw their way through the battlefield—Ragna and Starlia the source of their inspiration. But none are aware of Crimson’s callous scheme.

Our Take:

The showdown is getting close to its breaking point, although the corps members seem to be losing their grasp of victory due to Starlia’s injury. But the old saying goes: it isn’t over until the fat lady sings, or in this case, Olto Zora. However, as the battle against the dragons progresses, so does the one within the base, which could jeopardize the escape plan. If there’s one good thing about this intense war, Ragna is beginning to unleash his profound silverine abilities due to his unexpected connection with his future self. Whether his newfound strength is enough to defeat Olto Zora is uncertain, but based on the Monarch’s reaction, it could be one of the sources needed for the corps to gain the upper hand, along with Starlia’s motivated attitude. Unfortunately, he still hasn’t learned to trust his teammates, which could result in Ragna’s downfall.

But, the actual battle within the war resides within the headquarters, with Crimson’s real plan unraveling in front of the magicians’ eyes. It’s revealed that Crimson only wants the teleportation circle to escape with Ragna and his mind-controlled subjects, including the thaumaturge magicians. As for the civilians Silvia plans to evacuate, let’s just say they’re getting the short end of the stick. However, the only person capable of stopping Crimson is Fu, the only person who can activate the circle and is impervious to his hypnotic spell. However, Crimson’s plan to brainwash Fu is foiled by none other than Fu’s young sister, Majo, who reveals she has teleportation magic, which she used to transport him to a ruined city. Leave it to younger siblings to save the day.

So, while Ragna fights to gain his future self’s ultimate power, Crimson gets a good dose of karma from a young magician. On the bright side, though, Crimson’s diabolical ways are still a delight to watch regarding Jade Kelly’s performance. The ever-lasting battle between humans and dragons has provided some enticing surprises to keep it from being too drawn out since the start of the second half. Unsurprisingly, this episode continues this streak, with Crimson’s fate uncertain until next week.
