English Dub Review: Ragna Crimson “Hero of the Battle”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

The battle has begun, but Ragna and the Argentum Corps are not facing just any enemy. They are facing those who mean to exterminate them by any means necessary.

Our Take:

The second half of Ragna Crimson immediately commences with the long-awaited showdown between the Argentum Corps and the invading dragons. As expected, the battle isn’t as easy as they anticipated, as the dragons are led by Olto Zora and Taratectra. If it were, then this would’ve been a very short series. Fortunately, that isn’t the case since it consists of 24 episodes based on my research.

While the Corps struggles to fight off Olto Zora’s army of enslaved civilians, Ragna takes his fight to Taratectra, resulting in them barely surviving the duel. However, the actual struggle comes from Ragna himself, whose blind perseverance almost cost him his life once again. Following his survival against Taratectra, Ragna winds up being challenged by Shin, who’s upset by Ragna’s stubbornness in fighting by himself. Unfortunately, Ragna wasn’t so lucky with his latest duel with Shin, forcing him to reconsider his recent actions. It’s hard to ignore that Ragna’s desire to protect people is admirable. However, his recklessness can often put himself and those around him at risk, with this episode being another example of how the series emphasizes Ragna’s flawed determination amid his new powers.

At the end of the previous episode, I knew that the start of the series’s second half would be nothing but action-packed and visually riveting. Unsurprisingly, I was correct. Like my experience with the first half of Ragna Crimson, I was pleased with how this episode got me excited for the rest of the journey, even after its brief hiatus. In addition to its action sequences, the episode retains the show’s focus on its characters, mainly Ragna’s stubbornness and Shin’s hotheaded yet caring personality. Regarding the current situation the Corps is in, things might turn out worse for our heroes now that Olto Zora knows what they’re actually planning.
