English Dub Review: Undead Unluck “Revolution”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

The Roundtable listens to the new quests given by Apocalypse, each requesting the defeat of UMAs known as Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, allowing everyone in the world to participate, and with a 30 day deadline. Billy, the blind member who saved Tatiana from slavery, suddenly suggests that they simply drop nukes on all of the UMA. When the rest of naturally react in horror, Billy reveals he has secretly been the leader of Under, signaling members to appear and steal the Roundtable. He requests Tatiana come with them as payment for him rescuing her, but she refuses. After Under leaves, Juiz orders whoever is able to fight to follow them.

OUR TAKE

Well, looks like things just took a turn! I gotta give the show credit, I honestly thought Billy was just being an edgelord like most of the characters in this show, but I absolutely did not see Billy pulling a Sosuke Aizen, right down to the lying about his powers, removing his glasses, letting down his hair, revealing he’s the leader of an enemy group, and making his cute subordinate (who is still in denial) cry on the way out. HOWEVER, part of what made this so unexpected was basically that I had zero attachment or interest in Billy before this point, mainly because he was pretty much just in the background and giving occasional quips from time to time. We know he saved Tatiana from her flashbacks in the last arc (which this episode makes damn sure to repeat, along with Tatiana becoming friends with Fuuko, so as to shave off a minute or two of airtime) but that didn’t really give us much of a clear picture about who he is. Now at least I have some reason to care about Billy, if only to wait for him to eventually have his face caved in by Juiz or something.

But aside from that, this does provide an interesting wrinkle in the Union’s plans. They have their next missions, which are easier to complete by having them be open to anyone, as well as having thirty days to complete them. Except now that Billy and Under have the Roundtable itself, which I guess is where Apocalypse comes out from to give the missions in the first place, it’ll make the full Union impossible to attend, which will no doubt incur the final two penalties that will trigger Ragnarok. From what we know, Under’s plan is to take over the world with Negators before the god that ends the world can arrive, but I didn’t think they would want to hasten that happening or fight that god themselves. Also, with Billy being revealed to be the leader, it makes me wonder where Victor is going to fit into all of this. What’s clear is that the signal has been lit and the Union and Under are now officially at war, with the Doomsday Clock closer to Midnight than ever before. There’s two more episodes in this arc but plenty left to come. What a way to kick off the final third of the season!
