English Dub Review: Undead Unluck “Crimson Bullet”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
With the combined efforts of Tatiana and Chikara, Andy and Fuuko are able to defeat Rip and regain healing, forcing the Negator Hunters to flee. Chikara is returned to his school with a translator in his tie so he can lay low, but Andy and Fuuko want him to join the Union. After a week, they approach his school for his answer, but are approached by a somehow younger Rip.
OUR TAKE
Oh, I guess the arc ends an episode a bit earlier than I thought? Well, not exactly, since the preview for next time seems to indicate that we have a couple things left to develop and wrap up, but the battle on the cruise ship is what we’re finishing today. And I don’t know if they REALLY liked this moment or what, but the only actual new part of the episode is the team joining forces to beat Rip. What do I mean by this? Well, over a third of the episode is made up of repeating clips, sometimes more than once. Did you like seeing Andy making use of Chikara’s Unmove ability and Tatiana’s Untouchable ability to launch a special version of his finger gun move, titled Crimson Bullet? I sure hope so, because you’re gonna see it not once, not twice, but three separate times. First the initial moment, then an odd play by play by the narrator explaining every move even though you’d have to be six years old not to understand all of that the first time, and finally a moment of Chikara reflecting on what he’s learned which includes Andy using that move. Could be a budget issue, could be they just thought this moment was just that badass, but it’s really weird and distracting.
Anyway, that’s another bad guy taken down, though not out. Rip is honestly to uniquely designed that they would kill him off this early, so I always figured that whole “my ability will only turn off if I die” thing was a bit horseshit. I definitely didn’t expect him to turn into a child instead, but maybe it has something to do with how he heals. He also seems like he would be a much more interesting addition to the team than Chikara, who doesn’t seem cut out for the life of joining a super secret superpower person organization. Chikara’s just a normal school kid who got wrapped up in all of this because of the language thing, but now that he has a “translator necktie” that I have no idea how they got, he should be fine and be able to pass among them all when needed. Might also be a good time to learn English so he can survive even without the translator, but I’m guessing Duolingo works a little different now. But yeah, the arc as a whole TRULY finishes next week, maybe with a new OP! I was honestly surprised they haven’t had a new one by now since we’re over halfway.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
