English Dub Review: Shangri-La Frontier “Errands, Cultivation, and Game Progress”

“Unique monsters make money” Pencilgon suggests forming a clan with Sunraku and Oikatzo. After temporarily splitting, Sunraku returns to the Palace of Rabituza with the Non-Standard Ether Reactor he received from Oikatzo and comes up with a great idea.”

Our Take

This time around we get a bit of a small epilogue regarding the aftermath of the Wethermon battle, but it’s here when we learn a series of twists such as what OiKatzo looks like compared to his Avatar, and the fact that Pencilgon had a trick up her sleeve after having her previous Avatar killed then she explains the loophole of “transferring ownership and laundering” of certain items, which could probably come into play later on, but the three eventually come up with a Clan Name to cement their status as a team with Pencilgon as the leader.

Later on, Sunraku goes to visit the Palace of Rabituza to search for answers about one of the prizes the team got that needs to be repaired, but Sunraku is currently at a disadvantage since Vysache is still missing and not even Bilac can fix this as a Master Craftsman, this specific item needs an Ancient Craftsman for the job, and technically since the NPC’s within this universe can improve, Sunraku could theoretically help Bilac upgrade to that title…

Overall, this episode worked mostly in terms of exposition and info-dumping. Also, I thought Pencilgon would’ve wanted to be clan leader since she led the Wethermon fight and did a great job in preparing but regardless it worked out that way. With numerous unresolved plot threads and only four episodes remaining, the direction of the series remains uncertain, yet at the very least, I like the new direction they’re going and it has me hooked enough to see where this goes, especially with the comedic post-credits scene it had!
