English Dub Review: Mashle: Magic and Muscles “Mash Burnedead and the Divine Visionaries”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

After Cell War from Innocent Zero leaves, a rumor that Mash can’t use magic begins to spread around the school. On the other hand, Mash and his friends win the battle against Magia Lupus and take Lang Dorm’s coins for the Alder Dorm, thus bringing them a step closer to becoming Divine Visionaries. After school, they celebrate their victory with a party with Abel and Abyss joining them, when an owl suddenly appears and drops off a letter…

Our Take:

It has been months since we last saw the musclebound Mash and his magical allies, who have succeeded in foiling the Magia Lupus members. Unfortunately, the previous season didn’t end on a high note, as Mash’s secret as a Magic-less has been exposed to the academy. As a result, his quest to become a Divine Visionary had become much more challenging than he previously thought. This brings us to the long-awaited second season, which involves the aftermath of the season one finale, with Mash facing the consequences of his secrecy from the Bureau of Magic. However, Mash eventually gets a second chance after saving the judge, Mr. Bless, from a Magiparasite, courtesy of Innocent Zero. Unfortunately, that might not be enough for Mash to convince the Divine Visionaries, a group of elite students, to receive his pardon.

It’s easy to admit that the second season of Mashle has already gotten off to a strong start, thanks to this episode. Despite not watching the series since the season one finale, the episode quickly reminded me why I enjoyed it in the first place. One of them is the comedy, which effectively combines its dry humor from Mash’s emotionless reactions with slapstick. Several of these comical examples include Mash’s victory feast with the Magia Lupus members and Mash tying the Magiparasite up with his tongue like a cherry. But, of course, it also has several hints that could play a role in later episodes, mainly Innocent Zero targeting Mash. Hopefully, Wahlberg can help clean up the mess Mash is in for us to see what happens next.
