English Dub Review: BUCCHIGIRI?! “Group Date?! The Sea, Maji Croquette, and I!”

Overview:

Siguma and Minato Kai go on a group date.

Our Take:

Arajin has all the confidence in the world now that he beat Shindo. Nothing else has changed though, so he still acts like his usual stupid and pathetic self. This is especially true when Marito presents the idea of a group date to him. Of course, Arajin accepts without knowing all of the details. He thinks it’s just going to be an ordinary group date on the beach.

It turns out that the two gangs are actually putting on their own professional wrestling tournament. Members of each gang face each other in matches and they compete to see which gang will stand on top.

Arajin and Mahoro still annoy me as much as they ever have. At least Arajin tries to act a little friendlier with Matakara in this episode. Matakara tells Arajin that his older brother is coming home from juvenile detention soon. That sparks a decent conversation between the two.

Arajin also still has questions for Shindo. The main one being why he knows Senya’s name. Shindo doesn’t tell him. Instead, he tells Arajin to ask Senya himself. I suppose this means Shindo’s role in this story isn’t quite finished yet.

We also get an interesting twist from the man who goes into the cat-themed establishment. I actually enjoy this running gag, so it’s nice to see the show mixing it up a little.

The main reason I find this episode more enjoyable than the past few is purely because of the wrestling. I’m a professional wrestling fan, so I like how the gangs turn this group date into a whole show. There’s a ring and all of the participants are even wearing actual wrestling gear, except for Arajin. This is a nice change of pace for the show. I doubt it will last, but it’s nice to see another episode that I actually like after so many duds.
