English Dub Review: Undead Unluck “Return”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Victor continues to be more than a match for the rest of the Union, but Fuuko learns more about the placement of the card that keeps Victor repressed and uses an opportune moment to get Andy to resurface just long enough for him to kiss her triggering a wave of bad luck that even knocks out Victor. With that, the Union returns to their base, the mission complete. Also, Andy’s rank has gone up to 9!
OUR TAKE
And so concludes the Spoil arc, with this last episode not even really involving Spoil at all! But yeah, carrying on from last time, we continue watching Victor rather easily holding his own against the Union, and probably about to overtake them soon enough. The reason for this is pretty much to further stress that Victor is a serious threat, even amongst the seemingly strongest Negators that make up the Union. We also get a little bit of insight into his mindset about the world, namely that he seems to be a bit of a Negator Supremacist and will probably work on overtaking the world with those he can find who will be loyal to him, which is another reason he shouldn’t be let out. When and how he had this mental split with Andy is still unclear, but that information will likely come with time, as this is definitely not something we are done with exploring by a long shot. Also, turns out the thing that gets lodged in his head is a CARD, not a piece of glass or what I thought it was initially. I mean that doesn’t exactly make it easier to fully comprehend, but it’s at least nice to know exactly what that is supposed to be.
Anyway, the main point of this whole battle is to give Andy and Fuuko’s friendship and dare I say RELATIONSHIP its first true test. Up until now, Andy’s been Fuuko’s only real ally, which is saying something since he’s outright emotionally grooming her to get her to kill him. But it’s clear that he genuinely cares about her in his own weird way, while she has also clearly taken a liking to him for helping her to see reason to keep living. At the start of the story, she was ready to end her own life, but traveling with Andy and finding purpose in learning to hone her abilities has helped her a great deal. So, after he saved her life multiple times and in multiple ways, it is now her turn to save Andy from himself. Their twisted love and its explosive consequences end up being the true reason the day is saved, but if this is what it took to keep Victor down this time, it’s probably going to take even more the next time now that he’ll be watching from Andy’s subconscious. And we’re barely a third of the way through the season, so it’s very likely things will escalate rather quickly. The next arc begins next week!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
