English Dub Review: The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy “A Bond Everlasting”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Regina explains that she is the princess’ sister who was taken away due to superstitious reasons, but her royal blood gives her and Leonis a chance to rescue the ship, as she is able to connect to the princess through her pet. The rest of the platoon overpower the terrorists, with Leonis taking on the magician who gave them Demon Swords in the first place, but the ship is then attacked by Voids. Riselia then gains wings that help her survive the fight and Leonis learns that there may have been some gods that survived the last thousand years. In the aftermath, the platoon are all congratulated by the princess, though Regina decides not to join them and is instead just glad she got to talk to her sister for a little bit.
OUR TAKE
And so that’s another arc in the books. After the last one taking up six episodes, it’s rather odd that this one took only two, but I guess there wasn’t that much to cover in this one. It basically feels like a bridge that can also fit in a ton of explanation about minor aspects of the lore, like the artificial spirits, some fantastical racism of demi-humans (which is probably about to get much worse after this whole incident), and the royal family that Regina is now revealed to be a part of. Her backstory and reason she was taken out of the family is…well, kinda ridiculous, even for a show like this. Apparently she was born under a red star that had a bad omen attached to it, so she was to be put to death as a baby, but her parents decided to fake her death and give her to some relatives instead. This sounds brave and noble until you realize they really could’ve just…not done any of that and simply say she was born either the night before or the night after to avoid any of this nonsense. But I guess we need to get some tragic backstory somehow, so there you go, idiot parents in a sci-fi fantasy world.
And I suppose it’s good that Regina gets to actually be involved in this episode as opposed to the last one where she wasn’t around much. Her knowledge about how to communicate to and through spirits, both real and artificial, naturally comes in handy when she’s able to connect to her princess sister and stop the boat. The rest of the platoon also get a chance to shine too, with Sakuya getting some offhand background info about her clan that was apparently wiped out by Voids, Elfine helping figure out they were cleared to fight when before they thought there was a bomb, and Riselia getting her cool wings, which still leaves that dress from the promo art to come up at some point in the remaining third of the series. Oh yeah, and Leonis learns more about some more stuff that may have also survived for a thousand years while he was on ice, but we don’t really have that much time left in the show, so I doubt we’ll be getting back to that before it’s over. Anyway, perfectly fine episode, perfectly fine mini arc, all totally adequate.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
