English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Snacks/Sorbet”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

As another group of adventurers discovers a treasure box, a swarm of bone-chilling ghosts chases Laios and his crew. Senshi, however, has a sweet plan.

Our Take:

While having a balanced meal is nice, it doesn’t hurt to sneak in a snack or two, especially ones made out of dungeon monsters. Of course, by that, I mean the ones that are as small as a coin. This week’s episode took the series’s structure in another direction by focusing on a new group of adventurers, but only during the first act. This team, led by Cobro, was on a quest to defeat the Mad Mage in the dungeon. Unfortunately, their adventure was seemingly cut short when they were defeated by treasure, which happened to be a bunch of bugs in disguise. Lucky for Senshi, they turn out to be a delicious snack when appropriately cooked. The treasure bugs also make for a delectable dessert when mixed with the ghost’s frost. It’s actually quite fitting, considering the new Ghostbusters movie, Frozen Empire, is releasing next month.

Along with the team having a snack and a dessert all in one package, the episode improved the show’s fun humor and characters quite a bit. The biggest highlights regarding its comedy are Senshi throwing out the real treasure due to them being inedible and Laios unintentionally acknowledging the bright side of Falin getting eaten, which is eating sorbet. Speaking of Falin, the episode also portrays more of Falin’s importance to Laios’s team, in which she can communicate with ghosts. Unlike Marcille, Falin used this ability to protect the party and remove the spirit possessing the corpses without resorting to violence. It emphasizes the team’s strive to rescue Falin and provides subtle emotion to their relationship without overshadowing its comedic tone, mainly Laios and Falin. I’m still impressed at the fun this show continues to bring from its unique dungeon-crawling concept, and I hope it maintains that consistency in later episodes.
